December 3, 2021

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA)-funded joint UNDP initiative Gradacac Vocational Training Center trained 20 participants on CNC machining and placed the participants with 100% success rate.

Gradacac Vocational Training Center organized and delivered a 360-hour CNC operators and programming training for 20 participants between June 2021 and September 2021 under the “Support for the Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Bosnia” project. The program combined theoretical and practical training and provided the opportunity for participants to visit local automotive companies. Trainees had a chance to observe the production lies of local companies and consolidate their knowledge. As a result of the training program, all 20 trainees are employed in four local companies.

In February 2021, TİKA invested in the development of the capacity of the center with training on 3D Printing - Operation and Maintenance and provided equipment support. The training covered 3D object modelling and montage modelling. The participants learned essential programming tools for 3D modelling. 3D printers and consumables, which were donated by TİKA, used during the trainings to further familiarize the participants with the requirements of the topic. Nine participants successfully completed the training and received certificates during a ceremony organized by the center.

Gradacac Vocational Training Center was established with the cooperation of TİKA, Gradacac Municipality, Gradacac Businessmen’s Association, UNDP Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), UNDP Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) Office, and Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Education Foundation (BUTGEM) under the TİKA-funded “Support for the Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Bosnia” project. In addition, Ermetal Technological Training Foundation (ERTEV) supported the project through provision of training of trainers.

Although BiH has experienced a modest economic growth recently, the growth did not lead sustainable job opportunities for the unemployed.[1] BiH features a high unemployment rate with just under 16%[2], of which are mostly consist of youth and women with 33.8% and 18.8% respectively[3]. Promotion of skills development is key to address unemployment and low level of productivity as well as to bridge private sector demand with high quality labor supply.

Gradacac Vocational Training Center provides placement-driven vocational trainings and offer participants sustainable livelihoods opportunities in the long-run, while strengthening private sector actors and increasing productivity. The center will continue to deliver market-based vocational training programs and provide employment opportunities in the region.
